GetTemplate Blog: just for your information :)

Dynamic Website - the "must have" for every business owner

I think it's no secret that websites have become the main source of information about companies and their services, regardless of their size, and field of work. And it does not matter why this has happened, you just should admit this - any company needs a website. Whether you produce goods or offer services, your potential customers must be able to find all necessary information about you and your business with easy, using either classic sources of information or Internet. Fortunately the task of launching and operating a website is way simpler than it was few years ago, when the costs were huge and you had to hire a webmaster to manage your website. Now few hundred dollars are enough to build an informational site from scratch, and best of all, the result will not disappoint you.

So, as we can see, running a new corporate site is a good idea, we just need to find out where to start and how to move forward. Side note: I do not intend to write here a do-it-yourself guide about making a site because do believe - everyone must tend to his own knitting. And web development is not an exception. So let professionals do this work. In this short article I just want to give you few tips on what you should do (as a client) to get the site which will work for you and for your business.

To begin, let's define some requirements your future site must meet.
The first one: the website must be dynamic. What does it mean? It means that there must be a content management mechanism. In other words, you or your staff must be able to add, edit and delete any page on the site using a user friendly, WYSIWYG interface. And it must be as easy to work with it as changing a document in MS Word. Systems that have such functionality are called "CMS" or "Content Management System", and such system is the "must have" for any modern website.

The second requirement: 100% valid code. Somebody can tell you that this requirement is not so important, but it's 2008, so not only PCs have Internet connection, but a wide range of other devices/gadgets. I just want to tell you that your potential customer can visit your site using (for example) his iPhone. And this is when the code's validity is very important. Because only valid code will be correctly displayed on any device with any, even the smallest screen.

The last for this short article, but one of the most important requirements. Your site's visitors must be able to contact you easily, using your site only. So in addition to traditional contact information (which every site must provide), there must be a form, using which visitors can write and send you a message without running any additional software.

Of course, this list of requirements is not complete and will be expanded over time.
